# Data Synchronization

How Bloom synchronizes your Shopify and connected platform data, how long the initial sync takes, and what to do when data is missing or out of date.

### What is Data Synchronization in Bloom?

Data synchronization is how Bloom automatically retrieves data from your Shopify store and connected platforms to keep your reports, profit calculations, and analytics up to date. It runs on its own, so your revenue, cost, and profit metrics stay current without manual importing. This page explains how the sync works, how long it can take, and what to do if your data is missing or out of date.

### How it Works

When you connect your Shopify store to Bloom, Bloom begins retrieving the data required to build your reports and analytics.

**Initial sync**

After you install and connect Bloom, the initial synchronization begins automatically. Bloom initially syncs up to 365 days of historical data from your Shopify store, so you can start analyzing your store's performance without manually importing history. The time the initial sync takes depends mainly on the amount of data in your store.

**Data fetching**

Bloom retrieves the information required to calculate your revenue, costs, profits, and other metrics. Depending on your Shopify store and connected integrations, Bloom can fetch:

* Orders
* Products
* Customers
* Transactions
* Payouts
* Refunds
* Other data required for reporting

**Real-time data sync**

Bloom keeps your data up to date through real-time synchronization. Whenever you log in to Bloom, the app checks and syncs the latest available data from your connected platforms, so you don't need to trigger a sync every time to see your latest data. Bloom continues processing data in the background, so your reports and analytics stay live and current. The time required to update data varies depending on the data source and the amount of data being processed.

**How long data sync takes**

There is no fixed synchronization time, because it depends on the amount of data Bloom processes. The main factor is data volume: stores with more orders, products, transactions, and other records may need more time to synchronize. For large stores, Bloom processes data in the background so recent data becomes available first while the remaining historical data continues to sync.

**Syncing data from connected platforms**

Bloom can also synchronize data from the platforms you connect to your account, such as advertising and shipping platforms. Each integration may have its own synchronization process and data availability. For example, when you connect an advertising platform, Bloom retrieves the available campaign, spend, and performance data required for your marketing reports. Bloom processes this alongside your Shopify data to give a consolidated view of your business performance.

**What happens when you connect a new integration**

When you connect a new platform, Bloom starts retrieving the available historical and current data supported by that integration. Once the sync is complete, Bloom continues updating the integration's data automatically.

**Data accuracy and security**

Bloom is designed to securely process and validate data received from Shopify and connected platforms. It uses secure API connections to retrieve data and applies data validation during processing to maintain consistency and accuracy across your reports.

### How to check and troubleshoot data sync

If you recently connected Shopify or another integration, give Bloom some time to complete the initial synchronization. If some data is missing, work through these steps:

1. Check whether the integration is connected.
2. Check the integration's sync status or any error messages shown in Bloom.
3. Allow time for the initial synchronization to complete.
4. Log in to Bloom to trigger the latest data synchronization.
5. Contact Bloom Support if the issue continues.

If your data does not appear as expected, first check whether the synchronization is still in progress. The scenarios below cover the most common cases.

**Data is missing**

If recent or historical data is missing, the sync may not have completed yet. Large stores and integrations with large amounts of historical data can take longer to process.

**Data is not up to date**

If your Bloom data does not match your Shopify or advertising platform, the latest data may still be processed. Log in to Bloom to allow the latest available data to sync, then give the system some time to finish processing.

**Integration is not syncing**

If an integration is not syncing:

1. Check that the integration is still connected.
2. Check for any error or permission messages.
3. Log in to Bloom to initiate the latest sync.
4. Reconnect the integration if required.
5. Contact Bloom Support if the issue persists.

When contacting support, include the name of the integration and examples of the missing or incorrect data. This helps the Bloom team investigate faster. If your data still looks incorrect after the sync is complete, contact Bloom Support so the team can investigate the synchronization and identify the issue.

### Good to know

* **Your data syncs automatically:** Bloom checks for the latest available data whenever you log in, so you don't need to start a sync manually every time.
* **Initial synchronization can take time:** Your data may not be immediately available after connecting Shopify or a new integration.
* **Recent data is prioritized for large stores:** Bloom syncs recent data first so you can start exploring while older data continues processing.
* **You don't need to keep the app open:** Synchronization continues in the background.
* **Different integrations may sync at different speeds:** Data availability depends on the platform, the amount of data, and the integration's API limitations.
