Revenue and Cost Metrics
Bloom's Revenue and Cost Metrics view itemizes every revenue and cost line, so Shopify merchants can diagnose which component drives margin issues.
What is Revenue and Cost Metrics?
Revenue and Cost Metrics is the itemized line-item layer that feeds the tiered My Metrics view in Bloom. It maps to the system grid interface on My Metrics and breaks out every revenue and cost component individually, rather than showing a single cost total. It is for merchants diagnosing which specific cost line is driving a margin issue, and for ops and finance teams reviewing discount and return rate trends.

How it Works
The view acts as the drill-down layer beneath Profit Metrics. When Product Gross Profit or Gross Profit looks off in the tiered view, this view exposes the individual cost components (handling, shipping, tariffs, payment fees) that rolled up into that tier. Itemization turns "margin is low" into an actionable finding, for example isolating whether the issue is discounting behavior, return rates, or shipping cost creep.
Product cost priority
Product costs uploaded on the Bloom platform are always given priority. If none are uploaded, product costs are retrieved from the Shopify store and calculated accordingly.

Metric
Description
Gross Revenue
Revenue generated from product sales, calculated after markdowns have been applied.
Net Revenue
Gross Revenue minus Discounts minus Refunds plus Shipping Revenue. Unlike Shopify's Net Sales, Bloom's calculation includes Shipping Revenue, so the reported figure is the total revenue that belongs to the Shopify merchant, excluding taxes collected on behalf of the government.
Shipping Revenue
Revenue collected as shipping or delivery charges.
Product Cost
The cost of products sold. Costs uploaded on Bloom take priority; otherwise costs are retrieved from Shopify.
Handling Cost
The cost of preparing, packaging, and managing products before shipment. Set in Cost Settings.
Shipping Cost
Retrieved automatically from Shopify Shipping, or from an integrated shipping partner. Cost Settings also allow shipping rules based on products, destination country, shipping method, and fulfillment center.
Tariff Cost
Import or export duties paid on goods purchased or sold internationally. Set in Cost Settings.
Order Fulfillment Costs
Total cost to process and deliver orders, including handling, shipping, return handling, tariffs, and payment processing.
Operating Expenses
Money spent on daily operations, both fixed and variable, including salaries, rent, interest payments, professional fees, and platform fees.
Payment Processing Fees
Transaction fees. Automatically retrieved for orders processed through Shopify Payments; other gateways and estimated transaction costs can be added manually in Cost Settings.
Discounts
Total worth of all discounts applied. Includes both line-item and order-level reductions.
Returns & Refunds
Total value of refunds and returns. By default, based on the date the refund was issued. An alternative setting in App Settings shows refunds in the month the original order was placed, for a clearer view of true sales lost.
Taxes
Total tax collected on each order (Sales tax, GST, VAT, Municipal tax, or County tax depending on jurisdiction). Only applies if tax is included in the product price.
Gross Orders
Total number of orders received.
Net Orders
True order volume. Total orders received minus fully refunded orders.
Rate Metrics
Percentage-based context that compares components against typical industry ranges.
