Product Momentum

What is Product Momentum?

Product Momentum helps you understand how your products are changing over time. While Product Performance provides a snapshot of how products are performing today, Product Momentum focuses on trends and movement, helping you identify which products are gaining traction, maintaining stability, or showing signs of decline.

By tracking changes in product activity over time, Product Momentum helps you stay ahead of emerging opportunities and potential risks. Instead of waiting for performance changes to become obvious, you can identify trends early and take action with greater confidence.

Whether you're looking to spot fast-growing products, monitor products that may need attention, or better understand shifts within your catalogue, Product Momentum provides valuable context to support smarter decision-making.

Momentum Categories

Each product is automatically assigned to a momentum category based on recent performance trends. These categories help you quickly understand how products are changing over time.

Category
Description

On Fire

On Fire products are showing strong positive momentum and are among the fastest-growing products in your catalogue. These products may present opportunities for increased visibility, inventory planning, or further investment.

In Freefall

In Freefall products are experiencing a noticeable decline in performance. These products may require closer review to understand potential causes and identify opportunities for improvement.

Margin Squeeze

Margin Squeeze products are showing signs that performance trends may require additional attention. Monitoring these products can help uncover opportunities to improve overall outcomes.

Profit Engine

Profit Engine products are delivering positive business outcomes and showing encouraging performance trends. These products can provide valuable insights into what is working well across your catalogue.

Losing Steam

Losing Steam products are showing signs of slowing performance compared to previous periods. While not necessarily a cause for concern, these products may benefit from additional monitoring to determine whether further action is needed.

Holding Steady

Holding Steady products are maintaining relatively consistent performance over time. These products provide stability within the catalogue and may require less immediate attention.

Dashboard Features

The Product Momentum dashboard provides several tools to help you understand performance trends across your products.

  • Summary Cards: Summary cards provide a quick overview of how products are distributed across momentum categories. This allows you to quickly understand the overall direction of your catalogue.

  • Product Distribution: The Product Distribution chart offers a visual breakdown of products across momentum categories, helping you identify patterns and trends at a glance.

  • Revenue by Label: This view helps you understand how revenue is distributed across different momentum groups, providing additional context when evaluating product trends.

  • Revenue vs Profit Change: This scatter plot compares percentage changes in revenue and profit over the selected lookback period. It helps identify products experiencing sustainable growth, declining performance, or cases where revenue and profitability move in opposite directions.

  • Revenue vs Units Change: This scatter plot compares revenue growth against changes in units sold. It helps determine whether revenue changes are primarily driven by increased sales volume, pricing changes, or a combination of both.

  • Hide Outliers: Hide Outliers allows products with unusually large performance changes to be excluded from visualisations temporarily. This helps improve readability and makes broader trends easier to analyse.

  • Product Momentum Table: The Product Momentum table provides a detailed view of individual products and their recent performance trends. You can search for products, apply filters, compare changes over time, and explore trend-related metrics at a more detailed level.

  • Export Functionality: Export product data for further analysis, reporting, or collaboration. Tables can be downloaded in both Excel (.xlsx) and CSV (.csv) formats, making it easy to work with the data outside Bloom.

Momentum Settings

Momentum Settings allow you to customise how Bloom identifies meaningful performance changes across your product catalogue.

Threshold Percentage: Defines the minimum percentage change required for a product to be considered as having meaningful momentum. Lower thresholds capture smaller movements, while higher thresholds focus only on more significant changes.

Minimum Units Floor: Excludes products with low sales volume from momentum calculations, helping prevent small sample sizes from producing misleading trends.

Lookback Period: Select the timeframe used for momentum analysis (7, 14, 30, 60, or 90 days). Comparing different periods helps identify both short-term and long-term performance trends.

By adjusting these settings, you can tailor Product Momentum classifications to better reflect your business and analysis needs.
