# Product Performance

### What is Product Performance?

Product Performance helps you understand how each product contributes to your business by organising your catalogue into easy-to-understand categories. It provides a clear view of products that are performing well, products with growth potential, and products that may require attention.

Rather than reviewing individual reports for every product, Product Performance gives you a quick and accessible overview of your catalogue's overall health, so you can identify where your strongest opportunities are and where improvements may be needed.

### How it Works

Each product is automatically assigned to a category based on its overall performance. These categories are designed to help you quickly understand the role each product plays within your business, using thresholds you configure in Performance Settings.

**Profit Star**

Products that are performing exceptionally well. They contribute strongly to your business and are often among your most valuable products. Worth monitoring closely and may present opportunities for further growth.

**Revenue Trap**

Products that generate strong sales activity but may benefit from further review. While they contribute to overall revenue, there may be opportunities to improve their overall business impact.

**Margin Bleeder**

Products that may require additional attention. Often active contributors to the catalogue but with factors affecting their overall performance. Reviewing these products can uncover opportunities for optimisation.

**Hidden Gem**

Products that show strong potential but may not yet be receiving significant attention. They can represent valuable growth opportunities and may benefit from increased visibility or promotion.

**Underperformer**

Products that are currently contributing less than expected. They remain active within the catalogue but may benefit from further analysis to determine whether improvements can be made.

**Dead Weight**

Products that currently contribute limited value compared to the rest of the catalogue. May present opportunities for review, consolidation, or strategic changes.

**How products are classified**

Bloom classifies each product using four thresholds you set in Performance Settings: a sales benchmark, a healthy margin floor, a refund rate limit, and a discount limit. Products exceeding the refund rate limit, for example, may be classified as Margin Bleeders. See "How to use it" below to configure these thresholds.

### Data Available

The Product Performance dashboard provides several tools to help you explore and understand your product catalogue.

**Insights**

Product Performance includes Intel, prioritised by potential impact so you can focus on the most important actions first.

| Priority | What it flags |
| -------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Critical | Products or trends that may require immediate attention. |
| High | Meaningful opportunities or risks that are worth reviewing soon. |
| Low | Additional observations and optimisation opportunities that may help improve performance over time. |

**Summary cards**

A quick snapshot of how products are distributed across categories, so you can understand the overall makeup of your catalogue without reviewing individual products.

**Product Distribution**

A visual breakdown of products across categories, making it easy to identify patterns and trends within your catalogue.

**Gross Profit by Category**

Compares how different groups of products contribute to overall business performance, showing where value is concentrated across your catalogue.

**Revenue x Margin x Volume**

A bubble chart showing the relationship between revenue, gross margin, and sales volume across your products.

| Axis | What it shows |
| --------------- | ------------- |
| Horizontal axis | Gross Revenue |
| Vertical axis | Gross Margin |
| Bubble size | Units Sold |

**Volume vs Profit**

A scatter plot comparing units sold against gross profit for individual products. Helps you identify which products are contributing the most profit relative to their sales volume, and highlights products that may be selling well but generating limited profit.

**Hide Outliers**

A toggle that temporarily excludes extreme values from visualisations, making charts easier to interpret by reducing the impact of unusually large or small products on the overall view.

**Product Table**

A detailed view of individual products and their associated metrics. Use the table to review products, compare performance, search for specific items, and apply filters to focus on the information most relevant to you.

### How to Use it

1\. Open Product Performance from Product Insights.

2\. Configure Performance Settings to match your business:

\- Sales Threshold: set the sales benchmark used to evaluate product demand. You can choose a historical metric, such as the 90-day daily average per product, to define what qualifies as strong sales.

\- Healthy Margin Threshold: set the minimum gross margin required for a product to be considered healthy and profitable. Your recent average margin is displayed to help guide selection.

\- Refund Rate Limit: set the maximum acceptable refund rate. Products exceeding this may be classified as Margin Bleeders.

\- Discount Limit: set the maximum discount percentage before a product is flagged for excessive discounting.

3\. Review the Intel panel first, starting with Critical, then High, then Low priority items.

4\. Use the summary cards and Product Distribution chart to check the overall makeup of your catalogue.

5\. Explore Gross Profit by Category, Revenue x Margin x Volume, and Volume vs Profit to spot patterns. Toggle Hide Outliers if extreme values are distorting the view.

6\. Open the Product Table to inspect individual products. Search, filter, and sort to focus on the categories or metrics most relevant to you.

7\. Export the Product Table in Excel (.xlsx) or CSV (.csv) for further analysis, reporting, or team collaboration.
