# Targets

Set measurable goals in Bloom for profit, revenue, marketing, and customer metrics, then track actual performance against them over any period.

### What is Bloom Targets?

Bloom Targets lets you turn key business metrics into measurable goals and track performance against them over a chosen time period. You pick what you want to achieve, how to measure it, and the period to track it for. Bloom then compares your store's actual performance against the target so you can see whether you are on track.

### How it Works

Bloom offers two goal types. Each supports a specific set of metrics.

**Reach a Goal**

Use this when you want a metric to hit or exceed a specific target.&#x20;

For example: reach 20% Net Profit Margin, reach 3.0 ROAS, reach $100,000 Gross Revenue, reach 40% Gross Margin (CM1%), or reach 500 orders.

Metrics available for Reach a Goal:

**Stay Under a Cap**

Use this when you want a metric to stay below a specific limit. For example: keep CAC below $30, keep Marketing Spend below $20,000, keep COGS below 30% of sales, keep Returns and Refunds below $5,000, or keep Operating Expenses below $10,000.

**Metrics Available for Stay Under a Cap:**

<table data-header-hidden data-search="false"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Metric</strong></td><td><strong>Type</strong></td></tr><tr><td>CAC</td><td>Value</td></tr><tr><td>COGS</td><td>Value</td></tr><tr><td>Discounts</td><td>Value</td></tr><tr><td>Marketing Spend</td><td>Value</td></tr><tr><td>Marketing Spend as % of Sales</td><td>Percentage</td></tr><tr><td>Operating Expenses</td><td>Value</td></tr><tr><td>Order Fulfillment Costs</td><td>Value</td></tr><tr><td>Returns and Refunds</td><td>Value</td></tr></tbody></table>

### How to Use it

1. Choose your goal type. Select Reach a Goal if you want a metric to hit or exceed a target, or Stay Under a Cap if you want a metric to stay below a limit.

2. Choose the metric. Pick from the profit, revenue, marketing, or customer metrics available for your selected goal type.

<figure><img src="https://749049708-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9Cj862knfGNqzzPFauD6%2Fuploads%2Fzq3M74vReHAotCtDdAGP%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=97cec115-d72c-46c2-b047-0189f997f57a" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

3. Set the target value. Enter a number or percentage, depending on the metric. For example, 20% for Net Profit Margin or $30 for CAC.
4. Select a time period. Choose Year, Quarter, Month, Week, or a Custom period.

<figure><img src="https://749049708-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F9Cj862knfGNqzzPFauD6%2Fuploads%2FVH6vZRZgOgO7iLJfWS1Q%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=c044035d-2ca3-40d6-98f5-57ef1add3995" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

5. Track your progress. Once the target is created, Bloom compares actual performance against it. For Reach a Goal, the objective is to move toward or above the target. For Stay Under a Cap, the objective is to keep the metric at or below the limit.

**Example: September Profitability Goals**

| **Target** | **Goal Type** | **Metric** | **Value** | **Period** |
| ---------- | ---------------- | ----------------- | --------- | ---------- |
| Target 1 | Reach a Goal | Net Profit Margin | 20% | September |
| Target 2 | Stay Under a Cap | CAC | $30 | September |

Together these give two clear benchmarks: lift profit margin to at least 20% while keeping customer acquisition cost at $30 or less.
