🏗️Product Costs in Bloom
The Product Cost section allows you to define how Bloom should calculate the cost of goods sold (COGS) for each product and variant. Accurate product costs ensure that your contribution margins (CM1, CM2, CM3) and profit calculations are correct.
Bloom gives you two ways to manage product costs:
Automatic cost import from Shopify
Manual cost setup inside Bloom
1. Product Cost from Shopify
Bloom automatically pulls the product and variant cost you’ve set in Shopify. If you update the cost in Shopify later, Bloom will sync and update it automatically—no manual action needed.
2. Editing Product Cost in Bloom
If you want to override Shopify’s product cost or add more detailed cost structures, Bloom allows you to edit product costs manually.
You can update product costs in 3 ways:
Individual Variant Edit
Bulk Edit
Multiple Product Edit
1. Individual Variant Edit
Bloom allows you to manually edit the cost of each product variant. This is useful when you want to override Shopify’s cost or apply more advanced cost structures, such as date-based or quantity-based costing.
When you click the Edit icon next to a product variant in product cost settings, you can update the cost in two ways:
Fixed Cost per Unit
Use this option when the cost of the product remains the same for every unit sold.
Enter the Cost per unit (e.g., ₹15 per unit)
Click Save

Bloom will apply this cost to every order containing that variant.
Cost by Period or Quantity
If your cost changes over time or varies based on the number of units purchased, you can enable:
“Update cost by period/quantity.”
Once enabled, you will see two advanced options:
A. Cost by Period (Date-based Costing)
This option lets you define different costs for different time periods.
Use this when:
Supplier prices change over time
Cost fluctuates seasonally
You want accurate margins for historical orders
For each period, you can set:
Start date
End date
Cost per unit
You can add multiple periods using the Add Cost Period option.
Example:
Dec 08–Dec 12 → -Cost = 11.8
Dec 12–Dec 15 → Cost = 11.0

Bloom will automatically apply the correct cost based on the order date.
B. Cost by Quantity (Tier-based Costing)
Use this option when the product cost varies based on the number of units sold. This is common in bulk pricing or supplier tier structures.
For each tier, you can define:
Quantity range (e.g., 1–6, 7–15, 15 - 999)
Cost per unit
(Optional) Date period for when that tier is valid
Example Setup
Quantity Range
Cost per Unit
1 to 6 units
6.0
7 to 15 units
4.5
15 to 999 units
4.0

How Bloom Calculates Cost for an Order
If an order contains 9 units, Bloom applies the cost tier-wise:
First 6 units → cost = 6 × 6 = 36
Remaining 3 units (from 7th to 9th) → cost = 3 × 4.5 = 13.5
Total product cost = 36 + 13.5 = 49.5
Bloom automatically splits the quantity across the cost tiers and calculates the final cost accurately.
2. Add Costs in Bulk (CSV Upload)
If you have many products to update at once, you can bulk upload costs using a CSV file.
Go to Cost Settings → Products → Bulk Edit.
Click to download the CSV template provided.

In the downloaded CSV file, update the Bloom Cost for each product as needed. (Note: Only the Bloom Cost can be edited in the CSV file — other fields are locked.)

Save the file and upload it back into Bloom through the Bulk Edit section.
Once uploaded, the costs will be updated.
3. Add Costs by Group (Multi-Product Update)
If you want to apply the same cost to multiple products at once:
Go to Cost Settings → Products.
Use the checkboxes on the left to select multiple products you want to update.
After selecting the products, click Edit Product Cost. You’ll be directed to another page where you can perform the group edit.

The selected products will then be updated with the new cost values.
After entering the costs, make sure to click the Save button to apply the changes.

Enter the product cost in the group update section.
Notes
Rows highlighted in red indicate products that do not have a cost in Shopify or Bloom (not an error — just needs manual cost entry).
You can use the “Show products without Shopify cost” toggle (top left under Product COGS) to filter and see only products missing Shopify costs.
Click on “Recalculate Variant Cost” after editing the cost for cost to get updated and reflected in the P&L table.
